Interview with Diego Rampelini

Could you please introduce yourself?

I started my carrer working as a graphic designer, afterwards, I worked for several years in motion graphics. Nowadays, I find myself working in a audiovisual project called MUTA (www.mutaproject.com). Muta consists of a series of audiovisual pieces generated by musicians and visual artists. “The Last Defeat” is part of this experimental Project.

What do you believe has most shaped you as an artist?

All my life I was fan of music, when I was a kid I enjoyed drawing and watching horror movies till I dropped. As a teenager I couldn’t stop watching videoclips, so I guess all these had a mayor influence in what I do now.

What according to you is the difference between ordinary festivals and online festivals?

I believe that online festivals reach all kinds of audiences, there is a chance for everyone who wishes to participate, unlike ordinary festivals.

Please share with us your impressions about DotFest Festival Programme.

I think that was great. I liked the chat jury section, reading the opinions and decisions of the jury at the moment seamed an excellent idea. On the other hand, in order to watch the videos you needed to have a certain codec installed in your computer, I believe it would have been more practical to be able to see the videos without needing to install any additional codec, sometimes people are lazy, they don’t install the codec, miss the movies and videos. This is just a constructive opinion.

What were your expectations for participating in the DotFest?

I expected to know what people’s opinión on my video was. I´m aware that it is a very particular video and I wanted to know how people had received my work. In the end, I only knew the jury’s opinion and the public didn’t provide much feedback, mine didn’t have any comments. I would have liked to receive people’s critics, for better or for worse.

Your closing message to DotFest audience.

I Would like to take the opportunity to thank Demian Dröm in particular, who worked with me on the audio of this video and could perfectly understand my crazy ideas and also, I would like to mention that this video wouldn´t have turned out as it did if it wasn´t for him. Last but not least, I want to thank Jazmin Lasciva, a local Industrial band, for the inspiration. And why not? All the musicians who I’ll be working with in the near future, I have many more videos coming along! Thanks Dotfest for the opportunity, thank you all! Jonas Mekas, why didn’t you like the music? It’s a hit! (joke)
